Chief Investment Officer

Boann Impact Capital is an exciting social enterprise start-up, responsible for delivering Federal social finance capital to Social Finance Intermediaries (SFIs) and Social Purpose Organizations (SPOs). Our objective is to help build a sustainable social finance industry in Canada by the strategic deployment of Federal funds, raising new capital and attracting new investors into the space.
We are a small, high-performing team in a fast-paced, collaborative, and mutually respectful hybrid office environment. Are you an experienced Chief Investment Officer with a keen interest in social enterprise/finance who shares our values of helping build a stronger, better society by building and strengthening the social finance industry in Canada?
If so, your role as CIO will be to support the Chief Executive Officer and the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors by managing the organization’s investment strategy developing both short-term and long-term investment plans that will be a source of seed growth and capital for social enterprises and will provide a meaningful and attractive risk-adjusted return for investors. You will:
- Lead, grow, develop, and supervise a high-functioning investment team;
- In conjunction with the CEO, develop and communicate the investment direction, investment strategy, and investment and social impact policies to stakeholders (external and internal);
- In conjunction with the CEO, develop and launch a Canadian private social impact fund including building a network of potential investors;
- Work closely with the Boann Investment Committee, providing them with robust reports and presentations on proposed and potential investment opportunities, assess Boann’s investment results and review and adjust investment policies and plans as required in conjunction with the CEO and Board;
- Create, supervise, and oversee the investment process, including the due diligence process to ensure it is functioning effectively and efficiently and following the principles of social finance.
- Communicate the organization’s direction and philosophy on the concept of social impact investment to the broader Canadian investor community;
- Along with the Portfolio Manager, review current investments and identify new investment opportunities;
- Bring an IDEA lens to assessing impact investment opportunities;
- Monitor financial market developments and provide insight to the CEO, the investment committee and investment staff;
- Provide support to all business areas on investment related matters including the development team.
What we are looking for in a candidate is:
- CFA designation;
- MBA or other related advanced degree or equivalent professional experience;
- Minimum 5 years experience in a mid-to-senior investment management role;
- In depth knowledge of the global investment markets, including social impacts;
- A drive to build the social finance market-place in Canada;
- Fluent in English.

- Previous employment experience in private markets/social enterprises
- Previous investment sales experience
- Previous development of new investment products
- Previous experience in a decision-making role in a start-up
